Description of key information

The flash point of the substance was determined to be 59°C and experience demonstrated that the substance does not react with water and does not ignite in contact with air. In addition, it has been determined that the substance does not need to be classified as having sustaining combustion in accordance with UN Test L.2.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The flash point of the substance was determind using the Pensky-Martens closed-cup method according to UN, EC, ISO and ASTM guidelines and according to GLP principles. In accordance with UN Test L.2 (2003) it has been investigated whether the substance sustains combustion when heated and exposed to a flame.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with Chapter 2.6.4.5. of the CLP Regulation the substance does not need to be classified for flammability. Although the substance has a flash point of more than 35°C and not more than 60°C, it needs not be classified in Category 3 as negative results have been obtained in the sustained combustibility test L.2, Part III, section 32 of the UN RTDG, Manual of Tests and Criteria. In addition, experience has shown that the substance does not react with water and does not ignite in contact with air.

The substance also does not need to be classified for flammability in accordance with the DSD, as the flashpoint of the substance is above 55°C.
