The toxicity of the test substance on aquatic organisms was assessed for the standard aquatic trophic levels fish, Daphnia, algae and aquatic microorganisms. For Daphnia magna a short-term test has been performed in GLP compliance according to guideline OECD TG202, revealing an EC50 of 43.1 mg/L after 48 h.

The LC50 for green algae was determined in a guideline test (OECD 201) to be 65.5 mg/L. A QSAR analysis (OECD QSAR Toolbox (version 3.2.0.103) was used to predict a LC50 value of 130 mg/L of fish (Pimephales promelas).

These results demonstrates that daphnia is the most sensitive organism group when being exposed to Triacetonetriamine.

The toxicity to microorganisms was determined in a respiratory inhibition test with activated sludge according to OECD TG No. 209 in compliance to GLP. An EC50 value of 660 mg/L and an EC10 value of 370 mg/L was determined. The test substance has been shown to be not toxic up to a concentration of 180 mg/L to activated sludge of a municipal sewage treatment plant (NOEC= 180 mg/L).
