Test material

Constituent 1
Chemical structure
Reference substance name:
2-(tetrahydro-5-methyl-5-vinyl-2-furyl)propan-2-ol
EC Number:
262-038-6
EC Name:
2-(tetrahydro-5-methyl-5-vinyl-2-furyl)propan-2-ol
Cas Number:
60047-17-8
Molecular formula:
C10H18O2
IUPAC Name:
2-(5-methyl-5-vinyltetrahydrofuran-2-yl)propan-2-ol
Test material form:
other: liquid
Details on test material:
Name: Linalool Oxide
Batch No.: PE00097239
Purity: 98.5 % (Sum of cis- and trans- isomers)
Expiry date: 2016-08-27

Please note that although the substance is described in the report with the IUPAC name: 2-(5-methyl-5-vinyltetrahydrofuran-2-yl)propan-2-ol related to the CAS number 1365-19-1, recent analytical data had been determined the substance to be a multi-constituent 2-(tetrahydro-5-methyl-5-vinyl-2-furyl)propan-2-ol related to the CAS number 60047-17-8..

As the chemical manufacturing process has not changed since the report was written, the recent analytical information is relevant to the batch which was tested.

Sampling and analysis

Analytical monitoring:
yes
Details on sampling:
Exposure concentrations were monitored at the start (0 and 24h) and at the end (24 and 48h) of each renewal period.

Test solutions

Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
A limit concentration of the test item of 125 mg/L was tested, which corresponds to a geometric mean measured test item concentration of 117 mg/L.
The limit concentration was selected based on the results of a non-GLP preliminary range finding test in order to achieve a mean measured test item concentration of at least 100mg/L. In this range-finder test no effects were observed in any of the tested concentration levels.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Details on test organisms:
Daphnia magna STRAUS (Clone 5)

Study design

Test type:
semi-static
Water media type:
freshwater
Limit test:
yes
Total exposure duration:
48 h
Remarks on exposure duration:
Immobilisation was determined in all groups after 24 and 48 h.

Test conditions

Nominal and measured concentrations:
Non-GLP range-finder: 100mg/L (nominal) with corresponding measured concentrations ranging from 70.5 to 96.2mg/L; and 10 mg/L (nominal) with correpsonding measured concentrations ranging from 7.05 to 9.99 mg/L.
Definitive Limit Test: 125mg/L (nominal), 117 mg/L (geometric mean measured concentration)

Details on results:
At the limit nominal concentration of 125 mg/L of the test item Linalool Oxide, which corresponds to a geometric mean measured test item concentration of 117 mg/L, no effects were observed on Daphnia magna.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
No effects were observed on Daphnia magna in a limit test performed at a nominal concentration of 125 mg/L of the test item Linalool Oxide, which corresponds to a geometric mean measured test item concentration of 117 mg. Thus the EC50 was determined to be > 117 mg/L.
