- According to EU A5 criteria, as the result is below the threshold value of 60 mN/m, the substance is considered to have surface-active potential under the experimental conditions.
- Executive summary:
The surface tension of the test item was determined according to the OECD Guideline 115 (ring method) and under GLP.
The determination was performed on a 90% saturated solution (nominal concentration of 0.59 g/L) in ultrapure water, at 20°C. The average of six constant readings (±0.1 mN/m) was retained.
The surface tension of the test item solution is: 43.9 mN/m.

There is no significant change of the measured surface tension. Thus, it can be concluded that equilibrium is reached. Thus, the results obtained were averaged, to give the surface tension of the solution.
The result is: 43.9 mN/m.
Therefore, according to this test, it was considered that the test material is surface active (surface tension < 60 mN/m).
Description of key information
Experimental surface tension = 43.9 mN/m at 90% saturation (nominal 590 mg/L) and 20°C. (OECD 115, GLP)
According to EU A5 criteria, as the result is below the threshold value of 60 mN/m, the substance is considered to have surface-active potential under the experimental conditions. However, since the structure is not characteristic of a true surfactant, and it is not the intended use of the substance (i.e. not a desired property), this conclusion should be taken with caution.
