Description of key information

Log Kow (dimethoxy(methyl)vinylsilane): 2.3 at 20°C (QSAR)
Log Kow (methylvinylsilanediol): -0.1 at 20°C (QSAR)
Log Kow (methanol) = -0.82 to -0.64 (measured)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
2.3
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The requirement to test the registration substance for n-octanol/water partition coefficient is waived because in contact with water the substance hydrolyses rapidly to form methylvinylsilanediol and methanol. The half-lives are <<2 min at pH 4, 18.3 min at pH 7 and 0.7 min at pH 9 and 25°C.

The log Kow of the registration substance and its silanol hydrolysis product have been calculated using a validated QSAR to be 2.3 and -0.1 respectively at 20°C.

Methanol has a measured log Kow of -0.82 to -0.64 (OECD 2004).
