Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

In a guideline (OECD 203) GLP study modified to marine conditions, the 96 -hour LC50 of fish was examined using a commercial substance that was similar to the multi-constituent substance TEGBE-TetraEGBE but with higher than usual amounts of PentaEGBE .  The LC50 was found to exceed 1800mg/L.

It should be noted that a reliable QSAR predicts a decrease in toxicity with increasing number of ethylene oxide units. The QSAR predicts that LC50 effectively doubles for every additonal EO group added to the molecule, therefore TEGBE can be assumed to have the lowest LC50.

In a guideline acute fish toxicity study in freshwater, Leuciscus idus were exposed to the test substance TEGBE at concentrations up to 10000mg/l for a period of 96 hours. Because of the mortality profile, it was not possible to determine an exact LD50, only a range. The LD0 was 2150mg/l whilst the LD100 was 4640mg/l..

It can be predicted with confidence that the LC50 of the multi-constituent substance TEGBE-TetraEGBE will be in excess of 2000mg/L.
