Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
bioaccumulation in aquatic species: fish
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation based on log Kow <=3 and a low potential to cross biological membranes

Description of key information

Bioaccumulation (Cyrene™/Gem Diol): Low potential for bioaccumulation

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

When CyreneTM is in aqueous solution, the keto group (C=O) gains water (H2O) to form the corresponding Gem Diol {(1S,5R)-6,8-dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octane-4,4-diol}. An equilibrium is established rapidly (meaning that the reaction is rapidly reversible). The ratio of the two forms is dependent upon the amount of water present (see attached document in Section 13 for further details). At concentrations relevant for the environment (aquatic media) and in vivo, the Gem Diol form predominates. A log Kow value of -1.52 at 22.0 ± 1.0°C and pH 5.18 to 5.24 was determined for Cyrene™/Gem Diol. Therefore, the submission substance has low potential for bioaccumulation.
