Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

None of the studies evaluated exceed the acute LC50 toxicity (T) screening criteria of <0.1 mg/L or the criteria in Annex XIII of NOECs <0.01 mg/L. Measured ecotoxicity data are only available for toxicity to algae. This proprietary study reports a 72hr EbC50 for algae of 40.5 mg/L and a NOEC of 13.9 mg/L.

In the absence of measured data for fish and Daphnia the TLM and ECOSAR QSAR models were used to calculate the likely toxicity of ethylene to aquatic organisms. The TLM and ECOSAR models are a reliable and appropriate QSAR models to apply to ethylene as it is based on a related chemical dataset that calculates the toxicity of neutral organic hydrocarbons whose mode of action is non-polar narcosis. The endpoints calculated here are therefore reasonable estimates of its baseline toxicity.

The ECOSAR model estimates a 96-hour LC50 of 126 mg/L and a 30 d ChV of 12.4 mg/L for fish and a 48-hour EC50 of 62.5 mg/L and a ChV of 6.3 mg/L for freshwater invertebrates. The TLM estimates EL50 and EL10 for fish at 115 mg/L and 8.29 mg/L, the invertebrate EL50 and EL10 at 215 mg/L and 41.31 mg/L, and the algal EL50 and EL10 at 119 mg/L and 22.86 mg/L.
