Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Lanolin alcohols is considered to be a harmless substance and toxicity to sediment organisms is unlikely to be of concern.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No experimental data evaluating the toxicity to sediment organisms is available for Lanolin alcohols (CAS No. 8027-33-6). Lanolin alcohols is a substance of unknown and variable composition (UVCB), containing approximately 30% Cholesterol (CAS No. 57-88-5) and significant fractions of structure-related substances. Available data indicate that the substance is not bioaccumulative in a classical sense due to its active metabolic regulation and not acute and chronic toxic to aquatic organisms up to the limit of water solubility. Differently to organic xenobiotics, Cholesterol, the main component of Lanolin alcohols is integrated into the cellular metabolism and intracellular levels are actively regulated in most animals. Based on the available information, Lanolin alcohols is considered to be a harmless substance and toxicity to sediment organisms is unlikely to be of concern.
