Description of key information
Additional information
Lanolin Alcohols is a complex mixture (UVCB) which is a yellow waxy solid at 20 °C. It has a melting temperature estimated to be in the range 45 °C - 80 ° at 101.6 kPa and a boiling temperature estimated to be in the range 220 °C - 420 ° at 101.6 kPa.. It has a water solubility of ca. 0.21 mg/l.
The flash point was determined using a closed cup equilibrium method, Method A9 of Commission Directive 92/69/EEC (which constitutes Annex V of Council Directive 67/548/EEC). The flashpoints of the different types of Lanolin alcohols determined at 101,325 kPa were 250 °C (Super Hartolan), 238 °C (New Zealand Hartolan) and 246 °C (Argowax DCS). The vapour pressure of the test material has been determined to be 3.6 mbar at 20°C
The relative densities (specific gravities) of three representative lanolin alcohols were Super Hartolan (0.953), Hartolan (0.941) and Argowax (0.904)
It is not flammable and the self-ignition temperature was not carried out due to the melting point being below 160 °C.
Viscosity was waived since the substance is solid and dissociation constant was also waived since it was not scientifically possible to perform the test.
The determination of water solubility was carried out using the flask method, Method A6 Water Solubility of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.
The water solubilities of Hartolan NZ, Crosterol EL Special and Argowax DCS have been tested with results ranging between 0.1 – 0.4 mg/l at 20 °C.
The partition coefficient was calculated for three main components of the test material. For each component this was estimated to be as follows: cholesterol was log10 Pow 8.73; Lanosta-8,24 -dien-3 -ol (lanosterol) log10 Pow was 10.79 and 1 -Hexadecanol was log10 Pow 6.73.
