The biodegradability of the test item was tested according to OECD Guideline 301F with non-adapted activated sludge for a period of 28 days. The test substance was tested in a concentration of 28 mg/L, corresponding to a ThOD (theoretical oxygen demand) of 52.9 mg O2/L per test vessel. The oxygen was depleted by the respiration of bacteria and the degradation was followed by measuring the oxygen concentration. The biodegradation rate is therefore expressed as the percentage BOD (biological oxygen demand) and was calculated according to OECD 301 for each study day by using the following formula:

% biodegradation = BOD (mg O2/L) / ThOD or ThODNO3(mg O2/L) x 100

According to OECD 301 the pass level for ready biodegradability (60% ThOD to be reached within a 10-day window of the 28-d period) is fulfilled by the test substance in the tested concentration. Hence the substance is considered to be readily biodegradable. The validity criteria of the guideline are fulfilled.
