It can be assumed that the water soluble fraction of creosote at 670 mg/L was about 5 %, which is in between the solubilities at loadings of 100 mg/L and 10,000 mg/L (2,5 - 8 mg C/L and 110 mg C/L). This gives an EC50 for the water soluble fraction of ca. 33 mg TOC/L (670 x 0.05). As a conservative approach, this value can be used as the creosote EC50 for inhibition of respiration in activated sludge.
