The inhibitory effect of Acid Brown 282 on the oxygen consumption of activated sludge microorganisms of a municipal sewage treatment plant was investigated under aerobic static conditions, according to the OECD guideline 209. The following respiration inhibitions to the activated sludge compared to the untreated controls were recorded: 2000 mg/l (85 %), 1000 mg/l (83 %), 500 mg/l (72 %), 250 mg/l (50 %), 125 mg/l (37 %), 62.5 mg/l (16 %). Based on these data the EC20, EC50, EC60 values were calculated to be 60.5, 253 and 1060 mg/l, respectively (Archroma Germany GmbH, 2005).
Further studies investigating the toxicity to microorganisms are available and all confirm the outcomes of the key study.
