Description of key information

The high quality chronic database for lead contains freshwater toxicity data for w rotifer species (B. calyciflorus; P. rapida), three insects (B. tricaudus; C. tentans; C. riparius), 3 mollusc species (L. stagnalis; L. palustris; L. siliquoidea), 5 crustacean species (C. dubia; D. magna; H. azteca; D. birgei; A. rectangula). The chronic freshwater no-effect levels for these invertebrates were situated between 0.48* µg dissolved Pb/L (Lymnaea stagnalis; endpoint: reproduction; *NB  EC10 extrapolated below the lowest tested concentration) and 963 µg dissolved Pb/L (Chironomus riparius; endpoint: mortality).

Chronic marine NOEC/L(E)C10 values are available for 3 echinoderms (Strongylocentrotus purpuratus, Dendraster excentricus, Paracentrotus lividus), 5 bivalve molluscs (Mytilus galloprovincialis, Mytilus trossolus, Perna viridis, Crassostrea gigas, Ruditapes decussatus), 1 annelid (Neanthes arenaceodentata), and 3 crustaceans (Americamysis bahia, Penaeus monodon, Tisbe battagliai). No-effect levels for dissolved lead for marine invertebrates were situated between 9.0 µg dissolved Pb/L (Mytilus trossolus; endpoint: development) and 1409.6 µg dissolved Pb/L (Mytilus galloprovincialis; endpoint: mortality).
