Description of key information

With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic algae.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
240 mg/L

Additional information

Since no data on toxicity of ethylene oxide on aquatic algae are available a conclusion by read-across approach to propylene oxide (CAS 75-56-9) has been applied. The 96-h EC50 of propylene oxide was 240 mg/L measured on growth rate of the green alga Selenastrum capricornutum (Shell Research Ltd. 1986).

From the available test data for the structurally similar compound, it can be concluded, that the substance is with high probability acutely not harmful to algae.
