Based on chemical structure, terephthalic acid does not contain any of the chemical groups associated with known oxidising substances. Although the molecular structure contains oxygen, it is not connected with chemical groups associated with oxidising properties. Terephthalic acid is not classified for transport as an oxidising substance. TPA is therefore unlikely to cause or contribute to the combustion of other material during transport, storage or use.
