The most conservative value reported is a 34d NOEC of 0.551 mg/L for Pimephales promelas. This is reported in the study by Marino et al., (2003) which is GLP compliant and near guideline. There was difficulty in maintaining the test concentrations and the measured test solution concentrations were variable and did not remain within ± 20% of the mean measured concentrations over the course of the study. Despite this, the reported value of 0.551 mg/L has been used in the derivation of the PNECaqua in the Draft EU RAR (2008).This result was not based on the Time Weighted Average, recommended in the OECD test guidelines, and therefore the NOEC has been recalculated, using the raw data provided in the report to give a NOEC of 0.16 mg/L. This value was used to derive the PNECaqua.
