- Justification:
Persistence: Standard degradation experiments showed that 2-EHN could not be considered readily biodegradable. The poor biodegradability of 2-EHN might be the consequence of two factors, first the low occurrence of micro-organisms able to use it as carbon source, and second its inhibitory effect on bacterial growth even at low concentration. It is assessed as 'P'.
Bioaccumulation: A Bioaccumulation Study in Oryzias latipes determined bioconcentration factors of 1248 and 996. This was supported by a Catalogic QSAR prediction (log BCF = 3.16). All values are below the REACH 'B' threshold of 2000 L/kg, and therefore, the substance is assessed as not bioaccumulative (not B or vB).
Toxicity: The EC10 (growth rate) in Desmodesmus subspicatus was determined to be 2.22 mg/L, indicating that the 'T' criterion is not met based on chronic data. Furthermore, the lowest acute value (48-hour EC50 in Daphnia magna) was 0.83 mg/L, which is greater than the screening criteria threshold of 0.01 mg/L, further demonstrating that the test substance is not T. With respect to the other classifications that result in 'T', The substance is not classified for chronic toxicity, carcinogenicity, mutagenicity or reproduction. Therefore, the 'T' criterion is not met.
Overall, it is concluded that the substance is not considered as PBT/vPvB.
