Description of key information

≥3 mm²/s (static) at 100°C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The viscosity for heavy fuel oils is generally ≥3 mm2/s at 100°C. A static viscosity value of 6.0 to 55.0 mm2/s at 100°C was reported for heavy fuel oil grades based on fuel specification according to ISO 3104 Determination of kinematic viscosity and calculation of dynamic viscosity method. The result (CONCAWE, 1998) is considered to be reliable and has been selected as key study.

Supporting data indicate that the viscosity of heavy fuel oils ranges from 3.6 to 396 mm²/s (static) at 100°C (CONCAWE, 2010a).
