The requirement to test the substance for n-octanol/water partition coefficient is waived because in contact with water the substance hydrolyses very rapidly to form dimethylsilanediol and hydrochloric acid. The log Kow of the silanol hydrolysis product dimethylsilanediol was determined using a relevant test method to be -0.38 at 20°C .The result is considered to be reliable. However, in a secondary source to which reliability could not be assigned, log Kow of 1.8 was reported for the parent substance dichloro(dimethyl)silane.
