1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
performed under GLP
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no

Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks:
or specified in description of method (migrated information)
Burning time:
0 s
Remarks on result:
other: Chemically Activated Carbon could not be ignited with a flame during the preliminary test (contact time of about 2 minutes).

In contact with the ignition source, Chemically Activated Carbon emitted some sparks and glowed under the ignition source. No propagation of a flame or glow was visible.

Interpretation of results:
other: not highly flammable
Conclusions:
Chemically activated carbon is not considered to be higly flammable according to the criteria of EEC Directive 92/69 A.10.
Executive summary:

The flammability of chemically activated carbon was determined according to EU method A.10 under GLP. Chemically activated carbon could not be ignited during the preliminary test. Based on this result chemically activated carbon is not considered to be highly flammable according to the criteria of EEC Directive 92/69 A.10.

Description of key information

Experimental result EC A.10 GLP: Klimisch 1. No ignition occurred

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

In contact with the ignition source, the Activated Carbon emitted some sparks and glowed under the ignition source. No propagation of a flame or glow was visible. After the experiment, the Activated Carbon was still a black powder.
