Endpoint:
viscosity
Type of information:
read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Justification for type of information:
L-Limonene is the S-isomer of d-limonene. Therefore, data on l-limonene can be used for extrapolation to d-limonene. See read-across justification document in section 13.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
read-across source

Temp.:
other: 298.15K
Parameter:
dynamic viscosity (in mPa s)
Value:
0.846

Literature data (Brown et al.,1988): dynamic viscosity of (S)-(-)-limonene = 0.846 mPa.s

Conclusions:
The dynamic viscosity of (-)-limonene at 298.15 K was determined to be 0.8462 mPa.s.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted similarly to OECD Guideline 114 to determine the dynamic viscosity of (S)-(-)-limonene using Schott measuring system equipped with capillary viscometers. The kinematic viscosity was calculated from the average of six flow times using equation: ν = k (t – θ). The dynamic viscosity was calculated by the equation: η = ρν (ρ is density).

The dynamic viscosity of (-)-limonene at 298.15 K was determined to be 0.8462 mPa.s.

Description of key information

The dynamic viscosity of d-limonene at 25°C is stated at 0.8462 mPa.s.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

25 °C

Additional information

The viscosity of d-limonene was derived from a read across with l-limonene, one enantiomer of the regsitered substance having the same physico-chemical properties. The reported study is reliable with restrictions (2) having been conducted similarly to OECD 114 guideline with minor deviations.
