Description of key information

Tris(2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl) phosphite is considered to be hydrolytically stable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The rate of hydrolysis of tris(2,4-di-tert-butylphenol)phosphite has been studied according to the OECD 111 Test Guideline [Ciba, 2007]. The tested substance was uniformly ring 14C-labelled tris(2,4-di-tert-butylphenol)phosphite. A preliminary test was carried out at 50°C for five days at pH 4, pH7 and pH 9. The test substance was found to be hydrolytically stable after five days incubation, with parent compound representing 99.7 per cent (pH 4), 98.1 per cent (pH 7) and 98.5 per cent (pH 9) of the initially applied radioactivity. Two further hydrolysis studies confirm that tris(2,4-di-tert-butylphenol)phosphite is hydrolytically stable [Ciba, 1975 & 1992].
