Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

According to "column 2" of Annex IX, no experimental study on bioconcentration in fish needs to be conducted if the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation. The log Kow of 2.9 for 2 -Ethylhexanol (Perstorp, 2010) indicates a low potential for bioaccumulation. In addition the substance is readily biodegradable (NITE, 2002). Therefore and for reasons of animal welfare a fish study is not performed.

Rather, BCF was calculated using US EPA EPI SuiteTM 4.11 module BCFBAF v. 3.01.

As a worst case approach (no explicit consideration of biotransformation), only the regression based model is considered here. As model input, the experimentally determined log KOW of 2.9 (at 25°C; key study, company study number T10459; reliability category 2) was used (user entry).

A BCF of 38.06 L/kg wet weight was estimated. The compound is in the model domain as regards molecular weight, log Kow-range and correction factors (no correction factor). The submission substance 2-ethylhexanol has therefore a low potential for bioconcentration/bioaccumulation.
