In order to predict effects of Dibenzoyl peroxide in the environment and in biological wastewater treatment plants, an activated sludge respiration inhibition test was performed according to OECD 209 guideline and GLP requirements (Ginkel and Stroo, 1990). The test substance is not soluble in water and therefore the activated sludge was exposed to Dibenzoyl peroxide adsorbed onto silica gel at various concentrations.
The EC50 of Dibenzoyl peroxide for activated sludge is 35 mg/L a.i. with 95e confidence limits of 21 and 56 mg/L. The validity criteria were fulfilled.
