Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The NOEC (21d) for 2-phenoxyethanol in a reproduction test with Daphnia magna was determined to be 9.43 mg/L (measured concentration) for reproduction and 49.2 mg/L (measured concentration) for weight and length. The LOEC (21d) regarding reproduction was 22.5 mg/L (measured concentration), the LOEC (21d) regarding weight and length was 110 mg/L (measured concentration).

Additional information

The chronic toxicity of 2-phenoxyethanol on the reproduction of the water flea Daphnia magna STRAUS was determined in a semi- static test according to OECD guideline 211 and U.S. EPA guideline OPPTS 850.1300 (BASF AG, 2006). Daphnids were exposed to nominal concentrations (0, 10, 23, 50, 110 and 220 mg/L) of 2-phenoxyethanol (purity > 99.9% peak-area%) for 21 days, and reproduction (young animals), swimming ability, length and weight of the parent animals were measured.
In conclusion, the 21 day NOEC values for 2-phenoxyethanol in the reproduction test were (nominal and measured concentrations) 10 mg/L for reproduction (9.43 mg/L measured), 50 mg/L for weight and for length (49.2 mg/L measured). The LOEC values were 23 mg/L for reproduction (22.5 mg/L measured) and 110 mg/L for weight and length (nominal and measured), the LC0values for swimming ability of
the adult animals were ≥ 220 mg/L (≥ 221 mg/L measured).
