After evaporation or exposure to air, the substance will be slowly degraded by photochemical processes.In water calculated half-lifes for the formate ion lie between 153 days and 35 years depending on the OH radical concentration in surface water. Due to the structural properties, hydrolysis is not expected to be an important fate path.
