Additional information

Several studies were carried out for assessing biodegradation potential of DMSO under different conditions. Due to methodological differences (adapted sludges, deviations in exposure conditions, temperature and/or pH adapted, etc), the conclusions of those tests regarding real biodegradation potential of DMSO can be discussed. In order to rule on the ready biodegradation potential of DMSO, an additional study has been carried out in 2009. This study carried out according to OECD guidelines under GLP conditions and without deviation confirmed the low potential for ready biodegradation of DMSO in standard conditions with 31% of biodegradation after 28 days (Gancet, 2009a).
