Additional information

γ-butyrolactone (GBL) exhibits a low to moderate degree of acute toxicity to freshwater fish as determined according to several guideline methods using different species of fish. When tested using Bluegill sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus) under static conditions, the 96h LC50 was determined to be 56 mg/L (Monsanto, 1986). When tested using Golden orfe (Leuciscus idus) under static conditions, the 96h LC50 was determined to be 318 mg/L (BASF, 1990). Other studies using Golden orfe yielded 48h LC50 values of 288 mg/L and >215 mg/L to <464 mg/L (BASF, 1977).
