Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
Administrative data

Description of key information
The long-term toxicity of diethyl ether was evaluated in Daphnia magna. The 21-day NOEC was 100 mg/L under the conditions of the study.
Daphnia magna: LOEC (21-day) = >100 mg/L
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
One long-term (21-day) toxicity study was performed to assess the toxicity of diethyl ether to Daphnia magna (CRO: LAUS, 2010a). The effect of 21-day exposure on reproduction of Daphnia magna was conducted in a semi-static system according to OECD TG 211, and conducted under GLP. Five nominal concentrations, 10, 18, 32, 56, and 100 mg/L, were tested. The means of measured concentrations lay in the range of 87 – 108% of the nominal concentrations. Therefore, the nominal concentrations were used for the evaluation of the results. Purity of the test substance was 99.93%, pH varied between 7.5 and 8.7, dissolved oxygen concentration was between 8.4 and 11 mg/L and the temperature was 21.6 - 23.2 ± 0.8ºC. The offspring per surviving parent animal were: control 98, 10 mg/L 110, 18 mg/L 112, 32 mg/L 98, 56 mg/L 109, and 100 mg/L 110. Therefore the 21-day NOEC was 100 mg/L and the 21-day LOEC was >100 mg/L under the conditions of the study.
