Long-term toxicity to fish

Description of key information

A long-term toxicity study on fish is not required as DEE does have a low acute aquatic toxicity, does not bioaccumulate, is very volatile and therefore does not remain in the aqueous environment over a longer period.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Long-term aquatic toxicity testing is not proposed by the registrant as the chemical assessment does not indicate a need to investigate further effects on aquatic organisms. This is based on the knowledge that the substance has low aquatic toxicity and has a low bioaccumulation potential. Beyond this the study reported by Könemann et. al (see section 6.1.1) although considered to be an acute toxicity study on fish was performed with an extended exposure period of 14 days without showing significant increase of effects compared to studies performed over 48h resp. 96h of exposure. As outlined in the section on environmental fate, the substance due to its low water solubility and high vapour pressure will volatilise rather quickly from the aqueous environment and becomes abiotically degraded in air very quickly (half-life < 1day).
