Additional information

The effects on the seedling emergence and seedling growth of the product Peracetic acid 15% on terrestrial non-target plants were tested according to OECD guideline 208 (Fiebig, 2008). The test was carried out on 3 species (Avena sativa, Glycine max and Brassica napus) out of 3 different plant families. Test parameters were seedling emergence, fresh weight of the plants, plant height, mortality and phytotoxicity.


 


Peracetic acid reduced significantly the emergence of seedlings for all tested plants at concentration of 320 mg/kg (i. e. the NOEC value is 180 mg/kg). Significant reduction in the shoot height was observed with Avena sativa at concentration of 580 mg /kg and with Brassica napus and Glycine max at concentration of 320 mg/kg. For shoot height, significant reductions were observed at concentration of 580 mg/kg with Avena sativa and Brassica napus and at concentration of 320 mg/kg with Glycine max. Slight phytotoxic effects were observed for Brassica napus and Glycine max at concentrations of 180 and 320 mg/kg dw. Since these effects (stunted growth, lack of cotyledons) were seen only on few replicates, it is uncertain if the effects can be considered to be caused by peracetic acid. The EC50 based on seedlings' emergence is 413 mg/kg d. w. with Avena sativa, 320 mg/kg d. w. with Brassica napus and 328 mg/kg d. w. with Glycine max.
