Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
Ten to 20 midge larvae in their 3rd or 4th instar stage of developement were exposed in 8.5 cm glass dishes filled to a depth of 2.6 cm (ca. 200 ml volume) with test solution. Each chamber with a 3 mm glass overflow tube contained lake water plus a small amount of food (ratio of 1 l : 0.0025 l), with a fine layer of sand on the bottom.
GLP compliance:
no

Any other information on results incl. tables

The author recommends organisms such as Tanytarsus dissimilis with consistently high tolerances to a broad range of chemical classes should receive minimal effort.
