First-aid measures

If inhaled:

In case of irritation of the respiratory system or mucous membranes, seek medical attention. Move to fresh air. Seek medical attention if you feel unwell or if exposure is prolonged.

On skin contact:

Remove contaminated clothing. Wash affected skin with soap and plenty of water. If skin irritation or dermatitis commences or persists seek medical attention.

On contact with eyes:

Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 10 minutes taking care to wash under the eyelids. Seek medical attention. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.

On ingestion:

Rinse mouth immediately and then drink plenty of water, seek medical attention. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. In case of spontaneous vomiting be sure that vomitus can freely drain due to danger of suffocation. If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show this

container or label.

Notes to physician:

Treatment: Treat symptomatically.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media:

water spray, foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide

Unsuitable extinguishing media for safety reasons:

No restrictions.

Additional information on extinguishing measures:

Use extinguishing measures to suit surroundings.

Combustion products:

Hydrogen chloride, Toxic, combustible gases/vapours., Carbon and nitrogen oxides.

Exposure hazards:

Do not release chemically contaminated water into drains, soil or surface water. Sufficient measures must be taken to retain the water used for extinguishing. Disposal of contaminated water and soil according to local regulations.

Special protective equipment:

Chemical protection suit, suitable gloves, boots and self contained breathing apparatus.

Further information:

In the event of fire, cool tanks with water spray. Contaminated water from fire hoses or sprinklers, etc., must be prevented from draining into watercourses, sewers, or the ground water.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions:

Avoid inhalation and ingestion, avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Use personal protective clothing. Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374). Eye protection.

Environmental precautions:

Do not discharge into drains/surface waters/groundwater.

Methods for cleaning-up or taking-up:

Pick up with suitable absorbent material. Scoop into marked containers for disposal as chemical waste. Collect wash water for approved disposal. Inform authorities on accidental release to surface or ground water.

Handling and storage

Handling

Avoid ingestion, inhalation, skin and eye contact. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene practice and any legal requirements.

Avoid aerosol formation.

Protection against fire and explosion:

If exposed to fire keep containers cool by spraying with water.

Storage requirements:

Caution! Corrosive to many metals. Store in a cool, dry area with adequate ventilation. Use acid resistant materials for storage containers and pipelines.

Store in a cool ( 10 - 15°C), dry area.

The temperatures higher than 110 °C will cause violent polymerisation or decomposition and release of hydrochloric acid.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Respiratory protection:

Wear respiratory protection if ventilation is inadequate. Particle filter EN 143 Type P3, high efficiency, (solid and liquid particles of toxic and very toxic

substances).

Hand protection:

Material: e.g. nitrile rubber, chloroprene rubber, polyvinylchloride and other / Thickness: > 0.5 mm Min. breakthrough time: > 480 min

Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374)

Eye protection:

Tightly fitting safety goggles (cage goggles) (EN 166) and face shield.

Skin and body protection:

Wear chemical resistant gloves and protective clothing.

General safety and hygiene measures:

Ensure adequate ventilation. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Stability and reactivity

Conditions to avoid:

Decomposition at temperatures above 50°C with rapid volume expansion possible. Avoid direct contact with metals. Avoid temperatures above 25°C.

Materials to avoid:

acids, bases, strong oxidizing agents

Hazardous decomposition products:

Chloro-alkanes, methylamines and hydrochloric acid.

Disposal considerations

Waste from residue/unused products:

Dispose of in accordance with national, state and local regulations.

Contaminated packaging:

Contaminated packaging should be emptied as far as possible and disposed of in the same manner as the substance/product.

Uncontaminated packaging may be treated as household waste. Uncontaminated packaging can be recycled.
