Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
The t(50%)-value (min) at which 50% of the 20 specimens of Drosophila melanogaster had died when the atmosphere of the test funnel was presaturated with substance vapour was determined. The test concentration was applied to filter paper and put in a sealed vial. After complete evaporation of the test chemical, 20 specimens of Drosophila were transferred to the vial. During the test the number of killed Drosophila was registered at least three times during the exposure period. The experiment was carried out at 24°C under constant light conditions.

Acetophenone was found to be a particularly effective fumigant: At a acetophenone concentration of 20 µM the t(50%) value was found to be ca. 1 min.
