Description of key information

A GLP-study with a well described method is available for propylene glycol methyl ether.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life in soil:
1 d
at the temperature of:
293 K

Additional information

Rapid biodegradation of propylene glycol methyl ether was observed in two different sandy loam soils under aerobic conditions at 25±2 Deg. C. The time required for 50% degradation of the parent compound ranged from less then 1 day at 1 ppm to less than 7 days at 100 ppm. Degradation rates were slower in sand, reflecting the lower concentration of microorganisms present. No significant accumulation of intermediate degradation products was observed . Ultimate yields of 14CO2 ranged from 31 to 76% of the initially applied radioactivity.
