tert-Butylperoxy-3,5,5-trimethylhexanoat was tested for aquatic toxicity in a number of tests including EU method C.1, Acute toxicity to fish, EU method C.2, Acute toxicity to Daphnia and EU method C.3, Acute toxicity to algae. Following results were obtained:

Acute toxicity to fish:

An acute test following EU method C.1 with rainbow trout revealed a 96-h LC50 of 7.03 mg/L (nominal concentration). The 96-h NOEC was 3 mg/L (nominal concentration).

Acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

An acute test following EU method C.2 with Daphnia magna revealed a 48-h EC50 of > 0.52 mg/L (measured concentration).

Acute toxicity to algae:

An acute test following EU method C.3 with Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata revealed a 72-h EC50 (growth rate) of 0.51 mg/L. The 72-h NOEC (growth rate) was 0.125 mg/L.

Toxicity to microorganisms:

tert-Butylperoxy-3,5,5-trimethylhexanoat was assessed in an activated sludge following EU method C.11 with microorganisms. The 3 h EC50 was determined to be 327.02 mg/L (nominal concentration).

Long-term toxicity to aquatic inveterbrates:

In a 21-day semi-static chronic toxicity test to Daphnia magna with the test item the following threshold values were obtained: NOEC value of 0.22 mg/L based on reproduction; LOEC value of 0.44 mg/L based on reproduction and EC50 and EC10 values 0.58 and 0.33 respectively based on reproduction as well. The results were based on measured concentrations.

Long-term toxicity testing to fish is waived according to REACH Annex IX Sect. 9.1 Col 2.
