Additional information

A test was conducted using American Public health Association (APHA) Standard Methods (Union Carbide Corporation and Price et al. 1974). The 20 day BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) test was conducted using unacclimated settled domestic wastewater as the microbial seed (3 mL/BOD bottle). The results showed a BOD5 of 64% ThOD (percent of theoretical oxygen demand), a BOD10 of 76% ThOD, a BOD15 of 81% ThOD, and a BOD20 of 75% ThOD. The OECD criteria for ready biodegradability (60-% BOD of ThOD, 10 -day window) were passed. Therefore, propan-1 -ol is ready biodegradable (see also: EU-RAR 2008). This result is supported by the outcome of a study conducted according the OECD Guideline 301 D (closed bottle test), in which 71% and 81% degradation occurring within 5 and 15 days, respectively was observed (UCC, 1993).
