No guideline study data giving evidence on the effect levels for terrestrial organisms are available. The potential toxicity to terrestrial organisms is considered to be not relevant due to lack of soil exposure.

Nevertheless, as established in the environmental risk assessment on the terrestrial compartment, based on a PNECsoil derived by Equilibrium Partitioning Method, no risk for the soil compartment is identified.

Since in the past DCDPS has been used as insecticide several elderly studies on the effects of DCDPS to terrestrial organisms are available.

Experimental studies on the avian toxicity of DCDPS are not available. However, a study on field observations in white-tailed sea eagle showed no correlation between reproductive parameters and DCDPS concentrations in eggs (Helander et al. 2002).

 

Furthermore, read- across to structure analogues shows that the toxicological profile from DCDPS and other sulphone moiety analogues is different compared to DDT/DDE. They show generally no significant effects to birds. A detailed discussion of the read-across argumentation is given in section 6.3.5 of the technical dossier.

Based on the absence of effects it is concluded that DCDPS does not pose a threat to the avian population.
