Remarks on result:

Details on results:
n-octanol solubility:
Approximately 2g of the test item was mixed with 2ml n-octanol, using a vortex mixer and ultrasonication (1 minute). The n-octanol phase was observed visually for undissolved test substance. The test was performed under ambient conditions.
The test item was determined to be miscible with n-octanol in a 1:1 (w:v) ratio. The n-octanol solubility was therefore estimated to be > 1000g/L.

Water solubility:
Approximately 10g ACIMA ZINC OCTOATE was stirred with 5000 ml Milli-Q water. The water phase was observed visually for undissolved test substance. The test was performed under ambient conditions.
In a 2mg/l aqueous solution, still undissolved test item was observed. The water solubility was therefore estimated to be < 2mg/L .

Partition coefficient (n-octanol / water)
POW = CSaturation n-octanol / CSaturation water
POW > 5 x 10^5
log POW: >5.7

Description of key information

Zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate) has a log Pow > 5.7.

Based on the log Pow data of the supporting substance hexanoic acid, 2-ethyl-, zinc salt, basic it is assumed that the log Pow of zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate) is also > 5.7

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The log Pow of hexanoic acid, 2-ethyl-, zinc salt, basic was determined experimentally. It can be assumed that the log Pow of zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate) is also > 5.7 based on the data for the supporting substance hexanoic acid, 2 -ethyl-, zinc salt, basic, since the dissociation products are identical for both substances.

n-octanol solubility

Hexanoic acid, 2-ethyl-, zinc salt, basic was determined to be miscible with n-octanol in a 1:1 (w:v) ratio. The n-octanol solubility was therefore estimated to be > 1000 g/L.

Water solubility

In a 2 mg/L aqueous solution, still undissolved hexanoic acid, 2-ethyl-, zinc salt, basic was observed. The water solubility was therefore estimated to be 2 mg/L .
