Description of key information

In the course of the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited. The test item melted.
A main test was therefore not necessary.
The test item is not a highly flammable solid in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method A.10.
No pyrophoricity.
No flammability on contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

A guideline study of high reliability is available. The study was performed according to EU method A.10 in compliance with GLP.

Considering the structure formula and experience in handling and use it can be stated that pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water is not a concern for the substance.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test item is not a highly flammable solid in the senseof the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method A.10. Based on consideration of the structure and experience in handling and use flammability on contact with water can be excluded.

Based on the results of the flammability testing, consideration of the structural formula and experience in handling and use, the test substance methyl 4 -hydroxybenzoate is not classified as flammable according to Council Directive 67/548/EEC and CLP(GHS).
