Description of key information
The terrestrial chemical safety assessment has been conducted using the Equilibrium Partitioning method (EQPM)*. It is recognised that the aquatic PNEC used in the EQPM does not take into account any indicator for effects in aquatic microorganisms. However, a reliability 4 bacterial respiration inhibition test with DTPMP records an EC50value of >2500 mg/l (nominal, Grohmann and Horstmann 1989) with Photobacterium phosphoreum and studies with the related substances ATMP and HEDP indicate a lack of inhibition at ca. 200 mg/l in activated sludge (both Henkel 1972, see Section 6.1.7). This is a similar level of effect observed in lowest reliable short-term aquatic toxicity study with observed with fish where a 96-h LC50 216 mg active acid/L with Salmo gairdneri was observed (ABC 1980). Therefore it is unlikely that the PNECterrestrial based on aquatic ecotoxicity test results would not be protective for terrestrial microorganisms. The chemical safety assessment using EQPM does not suggest any unacceptable risks for the terrestrial compartment.
*A reproductive toxicity study with earthworms (OECD TG 222) is proposed, which may affect the current RCRs.
