Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Removal of DecaBDE from the influent by sewage treatment plants is expected to be highly efficient. Approximately 94% of that entering the plant will be removed via settling to sludge. No volatilization is expected. Essentially no (0.78%) biodegration is expected. These estimates are consistent with DecaBDE's properties, e.g. negligible water solubility and vapor pressure, extensive binding to particulates and organic carbon, and resistance to microbial attack and hydrolysis. The estimate is also consistent with the lack of biodegration seen in a ready biodegradation study.
