Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2011-07-14
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)

OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no

A base line shift of endothermicity increase was observed around about -135 °C (186 K). No other event implying phase transition was observed up to 100 °C (373 K). The nature of this event is unclear. Based on this observation, two measurements with slower heating rate, 3 °C/min, were performed, whose recorded DSC-curves are plotted in firgures 2 and 3. In both of these curves, base line shifts of endothermicity increase were observed. In one of these curves, a small exothermic peak was also recorded around -78 °C (195 K). This behavior suggests super cooling, but it is impossible to understand these observations from this tests. Considering the test substance is liquid at room temperature, and no event indicating phase transition was observed from -70 °C (203 K) to room temperature, melting point can be concluded to be below -70 °C (203 K).

In conclusion, no clear phase transition from solid to liquid was observed under the test

condition, but the melting point of the test substance is likely to be below -70 °C (203 K).

Conclusions:
A limit melting point of <-70°C was determined for the substance using OECD 102 test guideline, the result is considered reliable.

Description of key information

Melting point [3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyl]triethoxysilane: <-70°C (OECD 102).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
-70 °C

Additional information

A measured melting point of <-70°C was determined for the substance using a relevant test method but not in compliance with GLP. The result is considered reliable.
