Acute studies on two trophic levels are available, on aquatic invertebrates and alga. The results indicate that no toxic effects of DPHP occur in the range of the water solubility on the two trophic levels. For invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus) an EC50 after 48 h and 72 h, respectively, was determined to be > 100 mg/L (nominal).

Additionally, long-term studies for fish and invertebrates are available. The study with zebra fish resulted in a NOEL (36 d) of > 10 mg/L. The NOEC (21 d) was determined to be > 1 mg/L for Daphnia magna.
