Data for toxicity to microorganisms were generated with the test item Trinickel dicitrate according to OECD 209 under GLP-conditions. These examination resulted in the effect values of EC50 = 142 mg/L (CI 156 -229 mg/L), EC20 = 31 (CI = 22 - 40 mg/L) and a NOEC of 7.4 mg/L.
Since it is stated in the EU RAR (2008), that an assessment of effects of nickel exposure on microbial activity in STPs will be completed under the same regulatory framework as the Sediment Effects Assessment, there was no derivation of a PNEC made from the single above mentioned data. A general PNECmicroorganism and local scale risk characterization for the EU will be completed on the part of the EU and afterwards reported post-SIAM.
