Description of key information

Flammability:

The flammability of the test item was assessed during a GLP study according to EU Method A.10, UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids) and HSE Code of Physico-Chemical Properties from 1982. The sample was seen not to ignite, Initially the sample melted to a white paste, boiled then glowed pale red while in contact with the ignition source. No propagation of this reaction was observed.

Flammability, pyrophoric solids:

The pyrophoric properties of the test item were assessed in a GLP study according to UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.2 (Test method for pyrophoric solids) and it was determined that the test item should be classified as not a pyrophoric solid.

Flammability, self-heating substances:

The self-heating properties of the test item were determined in a GLP study according to UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.4 (Test method for self-heating substances). There could no change in appearance be observed during test. I addition no self-ignition took place during testing. The substance should be classified as not self-heating substance.

Flammability, contact with water:

The flammability of the substance which in contact with water emit flammable gases was assessed in a GLP study according to UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.5 (Test method for substances which in contact with water emit flammable gases). A slow reaction with water but no spontaneous ignition of the evolved gas, therefore EU GHS criteria are not met and the test item is not classified as a material of class 4.3 according to the UN recommendations on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test substance could not be ignited with a flame, without propagation.

The main test is unnecessary, because no propagation was observed. The test substance is not a readily combustible solid in the sense of Guideline 92/69/EEC, test A. 10.

Based on the physical state, the structural elements and the melting point the substance has not to be classified as pyrophoric solid and self-heating substance. This is also supported by test data according to the respecitve guidelines.

Based on the testing of flammability in contact with water a slow reaction with water but no spontaneous ignition of the evolved gas was observed and therefore EU GHS criteria are not met and the test item is not classified as a material of class 4.3 according to the UN recommendations on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
