Description of key information
Additional information
Appearance
The substance is an amber coloured viscous liquid with no reported odour
Melting/freezing point
The pour point of the test item has been determined to be 267 ± 3 K (-6.0 ± 3.0°C).
Boiling point
The test item boiled partially from approximately 544 K (270°C) at 100.6 kPa. The remaining amber coloured residue found on completion of each determination confirmed the presence of a fraction of test item with a boiling temperature greater than 673 K (400°C).
Density
The relative density of the test item has been determined to be 0.962 at 20.0 ± 0.5°C.
Vapour pressure
The vapour pressure of the test item has been determined to be 2.6 x 10-1Pa at 25ºC.
Partition coefficient
The estimated Log Kow = 4.5
Water solubility
The water solubility of the test item has been determined to be 4.21 x 10-2 g/l of solution at 20.0 ± 0.5°C.
Surface tension
The surface tension of 3.94 x 10-2 and 4.06 x 10-2 g/l solutions of test item has been determined to be 43.0 mN/m at 21.5 ± 0.5°C. The test item was considered to be a surface-active material.
Flashpoint –Flammability
The flash point of the test item has been determined to be 139 ± 2°C.
Auto-flammability
The test item has been determined to have an auto-ignition temperature of 390 ± 5°C.
Explosivity
Under COLUMN 2 “SPECIFIC RULES FOR ADAPTATION FROM COLUMN 1” in the REGULATION (EC) No 1907/2006 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 18 December 2006, it states The study does not need to be conducted if: “there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule” accordingly “The structure of the test material was assessed for chemical groups that imply explosive properties. Examples of such groups are C-C unsaturated, C-metal, N-metal, contiguous oxygen atoms, contiguous nitrogen atoms, N-halogens, O-halogens, N-O.” The substance was predicted to be non-explosive using Method A.14 Explosive Properties of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.
Oxidising properties
Under COLUMN 2 “SPECIFIC RULES FOR ADAPTATION FROM COLUMN 1” in the REGULATION (EC) No 1907/2006 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 18 December 2006, it states The study does not need to be conducted if: “the substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials, for example on the basis of the chemical structure” accordingly “The structure of the test material was assessed for chemical groups that would imply oxidising properties. Examples of such groups are nitrates, metal oxides, hypofluorites, difluoroaminopolynitroaryls, perchlorates, bromates and iodites.” The substance was predicted to be non-oxidising using Method A.21 Oxidising Properties (Solids) of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.
Stability in organic solvents
The test substance is stable as a solution in corn oil for 10 days. Corn oil is suitable for use as a vehicle in the 28-day repeated dose oral toxicity study.
Dissociation constant
The estimated pKa of the substance is 10.25. (SPARC v 4.6)
Viscosity
The viscosity of the test material at 100°C was determined to be 4.91 cSt and 158 cSt at 40°C
