Details on results:
In an additional test with Oncorrhynchus mykiss (body length approximately 7.5 cm) under flow-through conditions a concentration of 10 mg/l caused total incapacitation in 15 of 20 fish within 11.5 min, after which a recovery to a higher level of activity was observed
Sublethal observations / clinical signs:
For Salvelinus fontinalis at concentrations of 6 to 20 mg/l, the approximate
incidence of surfacing was 20 %

Of the 3 isomers of cresols, m-cresol was the least toxic to salmonids

Executive summary:

The acute toxicity of m-cresol to fish was determined with a static bioassay on several freshwater species. The highest toxicity is a 96h LC50 value of 7.6 mg/L with Salvelinus fontinalis.

Additional information

For various fish species short term toxicity tests are available, with LC50 (96h) values ranging from 7.6 to 55.9 mg/l.

The most sensitive fish species in reliable acute toxicity tests belong to the salmonids. An acute static tests was conducted over a period of 96 hours on the toxicity of m-cresol to three trout species. Among the fish species tested Salmo trutta (brown trout) was the most sensitive exhibiting a LC50 of 7.6 mg/l.
