Description of key information

In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted as:
a) No flammability in contact with water: The substance contains no metals or metalloids and therefore will not release flammable gases in contact with water.
b) Experience in production or handling; substance is known to be stable at room temperature.
c) Due to the flash point of 86°C, the substance is not a flammable liquid.
d) Due to the substance being a liquid, self-heating is not expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Due to the flash point of 86°C, m-cresol is not a flammable liquid, has no pyrophoric property, and does not emit flammable gases in contact with water and as a liquid is not suspected of self-heating. Hence no classification according to both Directive 67/548/EEC and GHS (Regulation EC 1272/2008) is required.
